More Snow

In case anyone is wondering WHY I keep posting snow photos, it's because snow is pretty rare down here. Most winters, although we see snow in the higher elevation mountains around us, we only get snow in town a few times, and it melts as soon as the sun comes out, usually that same day or next day. This is the first time I've seen snow stay on the ground for this many days in a row. Does that mean we are in for a rough winter? Hope not.

We got dusted with another 3 - 4" overnight, so here's what I woke up to this morning.

At the far end of our backyard is a rough stone waterfall and pond which might be visible if it wasn't all snowed in and frozen over.

People have asked us why we don't keep Koi Fish in the pond. I cannot imagine subjecting them to this in the winter, followed by baking hot 110-115 degrees all summer. Besides, the pond is pretty small, just big enough for me to worry that Clyde might fall in if he slips in this snow. {click to enlarge any photo}

The sun finally came out late today which made for a nice walk.

Here's Clyde's and my snow outfits. I probably overdid it with my big double-thick Eddie Bauer stadium coat, but if I don't wear it now, when will I ever?

Why does Clyde look so unhappy? Because he hates wearing clothes! For half of the walk, he shakes his head around trying to fling them off. Eventually he gives up and resigns himself to being humilated for the balance of the walk.

According to blogger count, this is my 150th post! I never thought I'd make it this far. But it is really Enigma of Watergate Summer who deserves many thanks for setting up this blog in the first place. She even named it! She must've thought I had something to say ....

So, for Enigma and anyone else who sees a resemblance between Geo W Bush and Richard Nixon, and is glad one is already gone and the other leaving soon, here is a vintage, but very timely, Phil Ochs singing "The Land you've Torn out the Heart of" ...

Click here if you want to know more about Phil Ochs.
For a real heartbreaker, listen to his When I'm Gone.
Joan Baez' cover of There But for Fortune is probably the biggest commercial success of a Phil Ochs song. If you search YouTube, you'll be amazed at his body of work and how many people have covered his music over the years.

DK, love the picture of you and Clyde! Diva loves her coat but of course she's used to wearing it all winter when we go out.

It's snowing and sleeting here in New Jersey. I have a feeling this is going to be a rough winter - in recent years we haven't gotten much snow before January. This is already our second storm and another one is coming on Christmas Eve.

I LOVE Phil Ochs. I often think that it's a shame he took his life back in the 70's - if he were here today he could have contributed so many more protest songs. On the other hand, all of his previous work is just as pertinent today...Cops of the World is another great example just like "The Land You Tore Out the Heart of" - so pertinent even today because of Bush/Cheney.

"When I'm Gone" was hauntingly prophetic.

Well done on your 150th! As a fellow novice "non-blogger" member the class of '07 I must say you have the hang of it.

Such beautiful photos. The winter snow is definitely a glorious mantal for landscape pictures.

That said, I'm tired of the snow!!!

We got 8 inches last night on top of 4 inches from a couple days ago. I had to shovel out a "tinkle patch" for our little 14 year old shepherd mix Lucy Jean. She still loves plowing the snow with her snout.

Clyde just hates any clothing! He doesn't see the need for it and thinks we are being mean or punishing him. He doesn't seem to notice that he toasty under the coat & freezing elsewhere (like his feet, how do people get their dogs to wear those footsie thingies?). And yuck, the way blogger reduces pics makes me look all distorted. You have to click up to enlarge.

Phil Ochs left behind a large body of work, especially relevant today. Dead at 36! Very sad. It did seem like he was writing his own epitaph in "When I'm Gone".

I thought for sure I'd give up after a few dozen posts. But somehow Blogger is always there taunting me to SAY something!

I'm tired of the snow, too. I've been through winters in Spokane WA where the snow piled up as tall as our front door. I was very happy to give all that snow removal equip away when we moved south. Should've kept the boots, though.

Clyde would probably like your Lucy Jean, though he is very wary around strange dogs, mostly because he is now deaf. He is an Aussie Shep Mix, 13-yrs old. He lost his best friend, our old Lab Mix a few months ago. Being male, he doesn't need a "tinkle patch", any bush will do. In fact, I'd never heard of that, but it's so sweet that you do that for your girl! Aren't dogs the greatest?

I love the photo of you and Clyde looking so stylish and even warm....and I love the snow photos...somehow your snow looks warmer and cozier than ours- How is that ???

( Somehow just having a dog to cozy up with makes the winter is not so cold....)

I was hoping you'd stop by, so I could thank you for setting up this blog! Thank, or blame? Either way, it's been fun.

Clyde & my outfits were too warm once the sun popped out. And now the snow is all gone, at least down here in town, so it's feeling a lot warmer. Today we were able to go for a walk without our big coats, for which Clyde was extremely happy. He hates his coat!

Eddie Vedder has reworked this Phil Ochs song to be about Geo W Bush, but the only youtube I could find of it was live with horrible acoustics. It's eerie and sad that even with the original song, if you just sub the name of W for Nixon, it still works today.
