DAY "O" = OBAMA!!!

This is the face of our new president. It is also the official face of America as of noon today, EST (about 9-hrs from now). I'm all goose-bumpy just thinking about it. Here comes the sun! Yes, we are finally on that mountaintop The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr spoke of.

Of course, the Bush Cheney Crime Lords are scuttling back to their secret ratholes and undisclosed burrows ... evil scam artists taking America down a very dark path right to the bitter end and beyond. The half-life of their kind of poison will be long indeed. But as we bid their TV images goodbye today (with a carefully lobbed pair of soft slippers), there is one more thing I'd like to acknowledge:

I thought for sure my patriotism had died in 1968 with the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy. I ridiculed the my-country-right-or-wrong crowd, despising their knee-jerk mentality. My feelings had been so sublimated that when Bush came along and told me I was unpatriotic if I didn't accept his Forever Wars, illegal wiretapping, trashing of the constitution, concentrating our wealth in the hands of a few, religifying of politics, etc/etc, I believed him. I thought I must be unpatriotic because I hated all those things he was shoving down our throats.

Well, as I find myself responding so emotionally to the national symbols of this Obama Inauguration, everything from the flags to the music, I realize I AM PATRIOTIC! I do believe in America! Seeing the wonderfully diverse throngs of people celebrating in D.C., I am finally proud of my country! And damn the Bush crowd for ever making me feel otherwise.

The DK Family will be spending today watching it all unfold before our eyes. Kleenex boxes have been placed in all accessible locations. It's finally happening! Barack Hussein Obama is our 44th President!

And just think, in addition to the millions of people who are witnessing history in person in D.C. today, there are hundreds of millions more watching it on TV or online here and around the world! What a beautiful day for all ....

I won't be watching this travesty. Let the minions. I did not vote for the lesser man. (FF)

Hey Ff (emphasis on the 1st F):
I can't believe I opened up this post's comments at YOUR request, and THAT was what you thought was so important to say!

If you're not watching because you didn't vote for him, then SHAME ON YOU! I didn't vote for Nixon, Reagan or the Bush Bastards, but I watched their inaugurals.

But then, *I* am a patriot!

ps, sorry everyone, I will delete these comments after I'm sure Ff has seen & understood.

I'm not quite ready to shift to the full on patriotic mode (work invited us to wear read white & blue.).. maybe I feel the half life of the last regime tainted it....

As for the regime change I am absolutely elated, ecstatic and giddy. You might tell that on my post for the day. I could not contain my happiness, and I notice lots of smiling faces at the inauguration goings on, some folks just can't get the smiles off their faces.

Historic, a totally different direction. A intelligent man, eloquent speaker, with true leadership qualities. He is a breath of fresh air.

OHHH Happy Day!

I am in total agreement with you DK.. I have tissues at the ready..well they have been for the last few days... I have never been more proud or more patriotic feeling than I have since election day. My faith and my hope was restored at 11:00 pm EST Nov. 4th, 2008.

Thanks for saying what I felt and just couldn't quite put into words.. as for your FF...you don't have to delete it..let the world see what a small narrow minded idiot they truly are.

I never agreed with Bush, however he was still my president. I still watched what I could of his pressers, still respected the office of the president, even if I didn't respect the office holder. That's just common curtesy.

But, then I guess you can't always expect that from some people.

This has been the brightest day in America for a long time. And we truly deserve it.

We've waited so long to hear a president say these words:

"As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals."

Enjoy your celebrations!

Fran:
my patriotism comes and goes, but it had definitely been dead for the last 8-yrs. nice to see it making a little come-back.

Annette:
hmmmm, I might leave that comment up as a reminder that jerkwads do not suddenly become reasonable just because we had an election and they LOST. Oh but of course WE were expected to suck it up, oh yes, even being called traitors if we stuck up for democracy, the constitution and rule of law.

Pursey:
Yup, I was glued to the TV all day & night. I think I can finally sleep soundly for the first time in 8 long yrs.

Dave Dub:
we've waited at least 48-yrs for a president like this, maybe even 148-yrs ... or, maybe we never had a president like this, but sometimes when you really need it, something good does happen. we came so close to losing it all, the whole damn country, and now there is at least chance of seeing a better day.

D.K....after what he has already done, I think we are seeing a shift already. Just the few orders and statements that have been issued has already caused a perceptible sigh of relief... stopping Gitmo for the near time, putting a halt to all of shrub's order until a review...that's wonderful in my book... just those two is a HUGE step..then he is meeting with the joint chiefs this afternoon to start on Iraq. I think it shows he is a man of his word already. That gives me even greater hope and shows me promise of things to come.Don't misunderstand me...I won't hesitate to call him down if I feel he is stepping out of bounds.. but so far he is moving in the right direction.

And I do think leaving your FF words up at least for a while is good...lol

D.K.,
It's a great feeling, isn't it? I must admit even my skeptical butt got caught up in the whole joy of the moment. I watched the inaugural online at work. It felt like the clouds were finally parting after 8 long years. Whew. Congratulations to all of us.
