Shhhh ... Secrets of the 2008 Campaign

Newsweek has published a seven-part in-depth look behind the scenes of the 2008 presidential campaign. Their reporters were granted year-long access on the condition that none of their findings appear until after Election day.

While I do not think details that would be important for voters to know should be kept secret, I am enjoying reading about these details now. And I am wiping my brow with relief that the election turned out as it did!

I contemplated printing out all these to read later, but then I got the bright idea to link them on my blog, so I can read them at MY leisure ... and so you can read them at YOUR leisure, if you are so inclined.

The links below are to the "print version" of each of the seven parts, which is the way I like to read long articles. Even though print versions don't have all the linky-links, each part is all on one page instead of having to click forward through page after page. If you want the full linky-linked multi-page versions, click here & follow the chapters listed near the top, under the heading "Secrets of the 2008 Campaign". Otherwise, here ya go:

HIGHLIGHTS: Hackers and Spending Sprees (this is just an overview which you can skip if you intend to read the whole series anyway) ...

PART ONE: How He Did It (how Obama grew as a candidate)

PART TWO: Back From the Dead (how McCain's campaign made a comeback with a new narrative)

PART THREE: The Long Seige (Obama and Clinton's primary battle)

PART FOUR: Going Into Battle (the McCain campaign's best hopes for bringing Obama down)

PART FIVE: Center Stage (last minute worries and an impulsive veep pick for the base)

PART SIX: The Great Debates (different strokes for different folks)

PART SEVEN: The Final Days (the path to victory) ...

CHANGE HAS COME TO AMERICA, yes it has (or will, beginning 1.20.09)!

Hi Red
I have been hearing of so many inequities rifts and problems with Palin and between palin and McCain. You know they are true but as usual the truth is called a lie. I was just listening to Palin deny everything again and it sickens me that she says it is because she is a woman. It is because she is a lying Neanderthal ditz!

McCain's campaign strategy was an insult to his party.

Obama won because he is smarter and plays better chess and has more to offer the average American, who is not buying the crap of the far right was easily these days.

there you go again, slandering Neanderthals! I'm sure a real neanderthal, given the benefit of another 25-50K years of evolution would make sarahpoo look like the dung beetle brain she is. oops, no offence to dung beetles.

MariaMaria:
Strategy? He had strategy? It was so great to see that a majority of americans did not buy the usual right wing crapola!

Funny and you are right but I believe there will be no straightening Palin out. The fool thinks she is right and the world is wrong!

There is already a big change merely because Obama was elected. You can feel it in the air, see it on television, and read about it everywhere. True, nothing really changes until 1-20 but, if yesterday's press conference is any indication, we won't have to wait until then.

now Steve Schmidt says there was no towel incident. hmmmm, maybe it was a hotel bathrobe, then?

EProf:
Yes it is definitely in the air! Suddenly it feels like there IS air!

Thanks for the links - good coverage. I'm sort of in awe still that Obama won so handily! Proud to be an American.

I know, I'm still in a bit of shock!

Cart:
I'm only up to Part 3 myself. Much of this has been leaked on TV this week, but I still like to read the interesting details.

I stoked from this election, but also exhausted. Gosh we have gone through so much to get here.

I remember on election night the media using the term "peaceful transfer of power", thinking, gee that sounds nice, but was the McCain campaign really peaceful?

I mean jeez....they were inciting some pretty hateful stuff.

I am glad Obama won, he keeps delivering the wow. ... so I am impressed, and I think we all wish we could fast forward to 1*20*09, to make this regime change official.

I just shake my head every day as in the lie we are living today every truth is dismissed as a lie and a lie (the new truth) is merely continued!

Fran:
The campaign season is not peaceful, the transfer of power is peaceful as long as the defeated party takes it peacefully. I wish they could join us in feeling the joy (maybe some do, secretly), but if they can't, then the least they can do is not obstruct. I'm sure they don't want us questioning their patriotism like they questioned ours during the last 8-yrs.

Avt Patriot:
"the new truth" ... wow, now that is a powerful stmnt, far beyond my mental scope or powers of perception, but I thank you for pointing it out.

I'm with you, I like to print things out because I like to sit and think..but sitting comfortably with paper in hand, not in front of a computer.
I think most of us could've written a few chapters on our own what would've constituted the difference but still, people need to 'wind down' and decompress so a little 'hindsight' (for the readers, not the reporters) goes a long way..
