GO-BAMA!

The very important Ohio, Texas, Vermont and Rhode Island primaries are happening today. Weather will be a factor in Ohio and Vermont as an extreme ICE STORM is moving there now. All those who did not "early vote" will be fighting freezing frozen ice as well as power outages at the polls. They should know that our hearts are with them as they exercise their sacred constitutional voting rights.

Texas will be performing a messy double-dip voting scheme, but I have confidence the Lone Star State can handle it. After all, they've lived with Governors like Bush and Perry and Representatives like DeLay and Cornyn and are still around to tell the tale. But their primary voting rules are complicated enough that meaningful results may not be available for awhile, so settle in, pop a brew (caffeine-free coke for me), and have some fun watching Blitzer trying to explain it all.

Rhode Island looks like it will provide the earliest & most accurate results of the night.

If you place any faith in polls, Zogby published this one March 3. It gives narrow leads to Obama in both Texas and Ohio. It is the only major poll giving Obama any kind of lead in Ohio.

In addition to TV coverage beginning about 7PM EST, there are many online sites following the election results. Here's just a few, remember to keep hitting "refresh" for current results:
Politico.com
CNN Politics.com
MSNBC Decision '08

And finally, here's the latest list of unpledged super delegates. You should recognize those from your own state & probably know how to get in touch with them. They hold the key to any prospetive democratic nominee & the sooner they commit, the faster we can begin concentrating on the general election. I have urged mine to follow the primary vote in my state since it expresses the will of the people. To do otherwise is a subversion of democracy, in my opinon. Of the states voting today, OH has 18 unpledged superdelegates, RI has 10, TX has 32, and VT has 7.

Hi D.K.
I just got an email from a friend who lives near Austin. He said he had held out for Clinton, "she is the best qualified after all, but Barack seems to offer the total change our country needs. It looks close here in Texas but I think Obama will win by a whisker."

I'm apalled at Clinton's negative attacks lately. It makes me suspect she'll do anything to win.

Nona....
I think she will...the newest ad- the Coloring of Obama is altered ( this is the Texas ad...)...sickening....On our local news they just reported that Hillary only has ONE demographic locked up in Both States....Women Voters over 65...and they did not even mention the Hispanic Vote . ( But remember last fall we were told that she had the Black Vote ALL locked up....) I think it has been really devisive all the way around...so sad....We should not have had this amount of infighting in the DEM party- it only helps the Repugs....

Hey, I just discoverd that once again my comments aren't coming through email. I wonder if I have to "unspam" myself again? You know, this is getting kinda old. It happens when I put up a photo of Obama. I also started getting virus-comments about then, too, but I've been able to block them. Or maybe there's just high blog traffic today. I'll "unspam" myself in a bit if it continues. Just have to jog the old brain & remember exactly how I did that.

Nona and Enigma: I hope that TX is as independent as they always claim to be & sees through the BS. I hope OH comes through, even in the icy sleet. I don't have a handle on VT or RI, guess I have to wait for Blitzer to show me a color-coded piechart or something.

One thing I disagree with the pundits on -- I don't think Hillary will back out for the good of the party, nope she is in it all the way to the bitter end & the negative campaigning has only just begun. See, this really IS all about her. So nice to have someone on "our side" using McC's talking points as strategy (GAG).

All's OK with blogger now. All is NOT OK with the primaries tonight. Looks like negative campaigning still works, especially if it's last minute nasty NAFTA innuendos. We'll know more when the TX delegates are awarded, but OH is gone, poof, c'est la vie. Not a good night for me. I am going the distance with Obama, but I miss John Edwards. I'm afraid we're watching the beginning of the democrats handing over this election to McCrusty. Things will probably look better to me in the morning.

***** You can listen to or read Obama's speech tonight on his website. Some of the text:

"no matter what happens tonight, we'll have nearly the same delegate lead as we did this morning, and we are on our way to winning this nomination." ...

"If I am the nominee of this party, I will not allow us to be distracted by the same politics that seeks to divide us with false charges and meaningless labels ... we will not stand for politics that uses religion as a wedge or patriotism as a bludgeon." ...

"We want a new course for this country ... we want to change America ... we believe that we rise or fall as one nation, one people. That we are our brother's keeper ... our sister's keeper." ...

"The world is watching what we do here. The world is paying attention to how we conduct ourselves. What will they see? What will we tell them? What will we show them? Can we come together across party and region, race and religion, to restore prosperity and opportunity?" ...

"Can we lead the community of nations in taking on the common threats of the 21st century -- terrorism and climate change, genocide and disease? Can we send a message to all those weary travelers beyond our shores who long to be free from fear and want, that the United States of America is, and always will be, 'the last best hope of Earth'?"

"We say, we hope, we believe -- yes we can."

(OK, now I feel better, say goodnight, gracie)
