Might I add that at my last visit to my primary care physician, (this person changes monthly or so at the VA), I was given a Vitamin D supplement to take. I don't remember what blood number he said needed the Vitamin, but it was his way to treat it, naturally instead of with another drug company pill.

Thanks again for the info and the link.

Peace.Spadomanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17781369901345409341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5361366843010914070.post-44516403289334617902009-10-14T20:50:08.369-06:002009-10-14T20:50:08.369-06:00I was just tested and was one of the few "nor...I was just tested and was one of the few "normals" my doc has seen in several years. I wonder if there is an argument to made to them that emp'ees affected by SAD are not going to be very good handling customers calls. Probably not. Better stock up on Vit D (at least it's cheap)!

EProf:
Hey, good to see ya! I was afraid you'd fallen totally off the blog grid. We get plenty of sunshine all year here, too, even when it's freezing cold in winter. But I have been the Sunscreen Queen for so many years (after being browbeaten by various dermatologists) that I was virtually never outside in daylight without being fully slathered in SPF-70! I really do feel much better since adding Vit D supplements and forcing myself outside sans sunscreen (except on my face) the past few weeks. I don't think it'd be wise for me to be exposed to full sun in the extreme summer heat, but for now, it feels good. Today there was no sun (a rare dark, cloudy day) and I miss that little routine already.

I'd be interested to know what your Vit D level is and what, if anything, your doctor recommends as a daily dose. Hope you're not deficient, but if you are, it's good to find out and begin rectifying with supplements now.D.K. I don't use sunscreen (to my wife's dismay) and get outside in the sun (we have plenty) more than thirty minutes a day walking, riding my bike, swimming, or cleaning the pool. Still, if so many people are deficient, it's worth looking in to.eProf2https://www.blogger.com/profile/03977043251946962968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5361366843010914070.post-54125376532037331112009-10-12T07:30:48.100-06:002009-10-12T07:30:48.100-06:00My workplace has a strict ban on anyone plugging a...My workplace has a strict ban on anyone plugging anything in at their workspace, ergo no desklamp, or fan.
People have to purchase battery operated fans.

I'm not making this stuff up!

Maybe I need vitamin D AND prozac???Franhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14198689517878201943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5361366843010914070.post-8194667233471558162009-10-11T16:10:43.558-06:002009-10-11T16:10:43.558-06:00Hi Fran: yup Oregon is north of San Francisco, er...Hi Fran: yup Oregon is north of San Francisco, ergo, you need Vit D supplements, esp in the winter!

I was thinking about a large workplace, how they could afford to do full spectrum flourescent ltg. The 1st time I ever heard of a big corp doing it was in San Diego. It's expensive. If your workplace is not interested, perhaps you might consider using a full spectrum lamp at your desk, to kind of counteract the bad effects. Just an idea.

I am also hearing from others who tested Vit D Deficient. Coincidence or epidemic?D.K. I'd bet ...Thanks for doing all the research.... I'd bet if I were tested I would come up deficient.
Glad to hear they did a long term study. You are the 3rd person I know who had labwork showing deficiency.
It is a catch 22-- we've been told of the potentially damaging effects of the sun, so we avoid or protect ourselves from it-- now we have an about face!
I am going to get tested, and here in Western Oregon, we are not the sunshine state....
although we do get sun, it is not at all reliable in the wonter & lots of people do suffer from SAD- seasonal affective disorder.... lack of sun, which makes them depressed & feeling run down - so there is a huge full spectrum lighting market in the land of *liquid sunshine*- rainforest.
My workplace probably has thousands of the fluorescent lights, so there is no way they would convert (hey! we are already on a fricking wage freeze!).
Thanks for doing all this research....
guess what I am going to buy today?Franhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14198689517878201943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5361366843010914070.post-34634652789596252772009-10-10T22:16:05.292-06:002009-10-10T22:16:05.292-06:00******Home Update: stuccoing now. cabinets to be ...******Home Update: stuccoing now. cabinets to be installed in the next couple weeks. est completion is still december. keeping us hopping! ******D.K.
